Craven Early College Junior Civitan event benefits sister charities

On May 3rd, a group of over 70 participants strolled through historic downtown New Bern, to “Walk a Mile,” which was hosted by Craven Early College Junior Civitan (below). Walk a Mile is organized as a one mile route taking you through scenic downtown New Bern an inch or two higher than ever before. (heels that is). The annual event benefits Coastal Women’s Shelter and Promise Place and calls attention to the continuing needs of domestic violence and rape survivors in our community.
Junior Civitan – under the tutelage of Craven Early College faculty member, Tryon Civitan member, and CWS board member Amanda Smith – has taken the lead on this service-learning project. In conjunction with the walk was a display of personalized t-shirts honoring friends and family members who have been victims of violent crimes.
